In the Dallas-Fort Worth estate sale scene, trends shift depending on who’s buying. Whether it’s collectors, resellers, designers, or everyday treasure hunters, everyone is chasing something — and interestingly, many of their interests are starting to align.
One major player in the current market? Resellers. They account for roughly 60% of our sales — a staggering number that reflects their influence and agility in spotting trends before they go mainstream.
About 15 years ago, we started noticing a change. The demand for once-prized pieces—traditional antiques, gilt furniture, fine china, crystal stemware, silver-plated serving sets, and Asian décor—began to wane. For many families we help, this has been a tough realization. They’re often surprised (and disappointed) when these cherished items no longer hold the value they once did. If I had a dollar for every time someone proudly showed off their Hummels, collector plates, porcelain flowers, or glassware from the 1970s… well, let’s just say I’d have a pretty full piggy bank.
But lately, we’ve seen a delightful twist: a resurgence in elegant, formal table settings. Thanks to social media influencers glamorizing the “return of the formal table,” we’re seeing millennials lead the charge — and resellers, designers, and general buyers are quickly following suit.
What’s more, influencers are now showing up at estate sales and streaming live while they shop. It’s a fascinating trend that brings visibility to the industry and attracts new audiences. Is it all good news? Not entirely. There are new challenges too — like managing security, and navigating those who are there just for content and not for actual purchases. Still, with the right approach, it can be a major boost for awareness and business.
Design trends we’re watching:
- Mid-Century Modern and retro pieces are still popular, though the craze has started to cool.
- Heavy gilt furniture and ornate mirrors are gaining traction — often used as standout accent pieces.
- European antiques are back in style, especially when mixed with modern décor.
- Asian décor is enjoying a well-deserved comeback, appreciated for its detail, quality, and timeless elegance.
Today’s buyers are crafting more curated, layered spaces—blending various styles to create homes that feel personal, eclectic, and elevated.
As we move deeper into 2025, one can’t help but wonder… will Norman Rockwell collector plates or Avon figurines make a surprise comeback?
(Okay, maybe that’s wishful thinking—but stranger things have happened.)
